Women are underrepresented in academic philosophy. In the US the percentage of women earning a Ph.D. degree in Philosophy is about 30%, the percentage of women getting a permanent professorship is about 25%. Numbers for European countries are not representative but suggest even lower percentages. This is one of the biggest gender gaps in any academic field. In recent years, this issue and its possible causes have started to become a subject of several research projects and promising hypotheses. 

For now, women in academic philosophy face the reality that they are vastly underrepresented in their daily study or work environment and that their faculty or superiors will be predominantly male. In this workshop, we will deal with specific everyday situations, how to stay confident in challenging circumstances, and learn tips and strategies to affirm our competence to ourselves and others. 

This is a workshop for female doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers in philosophy. It will be lead by experienced media coach Katrin Nandelstädt.
